Drove home from Las Vegas yesterday.* Current status: impressed.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

2013 Chevrolet Volt premium. Lifetime 187 mpg.

*Bought at the Riverside, CA Manheim auction. Transported it to Vegas, drove down and picked it up yesterday.

I’ve always loved these things, never thought I would buy one. We’ve needed a second car for a while now, decided it was time to put my money where my mouth is.

I love the concept of having an onboard generator. When I picked the car up the electric range was 0, by using “Mountain Mode” I was able to build up a 40% battery reserve to use going up big hills, the drive in complete silence once I got home. It’s the coolest thing ever. No range anxiety.

The interior looks sooooo much better in gray than white. Good choice, glad you like it.

I think the Volts are neat. Their powertrain puts the Prius to absolute shame - it goes double for the new generation of Volt. I think the newer one looks a lot better inside and out (and has a much more impressive powertrain) but the Gen 1 Volt is still pretty impressive from a mechanical perspective.

Awesome! I’m in the same boat of wanting something really efficient and the prices for these are great, plus this is the only car in its class that looks good and doesn’t make you come across as pretentious. Great buy! I wish I could join the club...

I’m not really a fan of the powertrain in the Volt, but I always secretly thought the first gen Volt looks good.

My siblings have a 1st and 3rd gen Prius and my mom has a 3rd gen Prius V. I couldn’t stand the way they drove. Engine on, engine off, engine on, engijdigosjdiogs. I wanted silent propulsion, and that’s what I got. Plus a great interior and stupidly high mpg’s.

Agreed. The white was cool a few years ago but hasn’t aged as well as the gray.

Not enough power? Too loud? What’s the beef?

Let’s just say... I hope you don’t mind the few suspicious stains on the back seat.

I’m a fan of these. The streak remains unbroken, I’ve yet to meet or speak to a Volt owner who didn’t love it.

I’m more a fan of supplemental hybrid powertrains that help extend the range while decreasing load oj the engine, like in the Prius and several other hybrids. The idea that the Volt has “only electric drive” or “only ICE drive” seems pointless to me.

did you notice any big drops in range when using the Ac or heat? (maybe not with just the one drive.)

Last night was the first time I was able to charge it, so I don’t have any concrete electric-only numbers, but even still, I haven’t noticed a difference in overall gas/electric range while using the A/C.

A/C you won’t see much.. Heat you will see A LOT. It’s a different car in the winter. I had one for just over a year in northern GA. December - Late Feb EV miles are 22-28. Spring is about 35. (I had a 2012) I got hit last week and it’s totaled. I want another one. I love that car.

When the battery is depleted in the Volt, the powertrain acts just like a Prius. The engine runs as needed to maintain a state of charge in the battery. To the driver this feels the same as Prius because the engine shuts down a lot at slow speeds. Although its not well know, the Volt’s gas engine can direct drive the wheels at highway speeds for greater efficiency (still not quite as good highway MPG as the Prius, at least the first gen).
